The BTEC Business course offers a broad introduction to careers in business and provides the opportunity to experience real, authentic business practices. The course develops practical business skills, so is suitable for students wishing to move on to management training courses, who wish to work directly in business post 18, or wish to develop the skills to set up their own business.

Year 12 - 50% of BTEC extended certificate: • Unit 1: Exploring Business (assignment, internally assessed) 25% In this introductory unit, you will study the purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external environment, and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive. • Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance (examination, externally assessed) 25% You will study the purpose and importance of personal and business finance. You will develop the skills and knowledge needed to understand, analyse and prepare financial information. Year 13 - 50% of BTEC extended certificate: • Unit 2: Developing A Marketing Campaign (set task, externally assessed) 25% You will gain skills relating to, and an understanding of, how a marketing campaign is developed. • Unit 14: Investigating customer service (assignment, internally assessed) 25% You will study how excellent customer service contributes to business success. The unit gives you the opportunity to develop your customer service skills.
