What is BTEC Sports? BTEC Sports is the study of different areas in the sports industry such as the development of coaching skills, sports psychology, nutrition for sports performance and careers in the sport & active leisure industry. Structure of the assessment is entirely coursework based however there are units that require practical elements such as successfully coaching young sports performers. The BTEC courses are vocational in nature and are therefore an excellent qualification to have for those looking to apply for an apprenticeship after Sixth Form or for those wishing to go straight in to employment. Equally they provide a pathway into higher education to study a wide variety of courses. What type of students succeed at BTEC Sports? Students who are interested in furthering their understanding of the many facets that the sports industry has to offer. Students must be driven to work had and often independently at times. They must be proactive in their approach to researching particular topics many different sectors of the sporting industry. Students who are willing to develop skills such as independent researching, sports coaching, public speaking leading others. working as a team would be suited to this course. What skills does BTEC Sports develop? Students develop their ability to compose extended research tasks, presentation and communication skills as well as group work and leadership skills. Students will be guided on how to coach effectively and to use different coaching styles to get the best out of the participants they are coaching. They will gain confidence in their ability to speak in front of others and to deliver excellent coaching sessions in a variety of sports.
