Course summary

Curriculum vision / Intent: Media Studies at Douay Martyrs aims to bring students a diverse, multicultural and global understanding of different types of Media and what influences it. Students who study Media will develop critical thinking, analytical skills and a wider cultural capital knowledge of a range of contextual issues from politics, economics to historical context of newspapers, the film industry, radio, television, video gaming and the rise of New Media. By the end of their study, students will have a wide understanding of different audiences, how media manipulates and influences its audiences and a theoretical understanding of how and why this is the case. IMPACT: The Curriculum will prepare students for further study at A-level or for entering the world of work. The course develops group work, presentation skills, ICT and new media skills, creative and critical thinking and independent working skills. The subject will enhance the knowledge of students in other subjects such as English, Art, History, Sociology, Phycology, Politics, ICT and Graphic design giving our students the options and the confidence to further their learning and development post GCSE. The A-Level Media Studies qualification is a highly-regarded and successful certification where students can put their learning into further use and learn more about the intricate web of media industries and the audiences they address.

In order to study subjects at Advanced Level (A-Level) you need to have achieved at least 5 Level 9 - 4 including Maths and English and have met the specific entry requirements of the subjects you wish to study. In addition to the above criteria all students must achieve a minimum GCSE average points score of 4.0.
