WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? If you have a passion for understanding how things work and enjoy scientific experiments and Mathematics, then you should study Physics. Physics is crucial to understanding the world around us, the world inside us, and the world beyond us. WHERE NEXT - POSSIBLE CAREER PROGRESSION? The options available following the completion of an A Level in Physics are wide and varied. Students have in the past combined Physics with music and gone into sound Engineering, or Art and Physics to go into Architecture. Several Law courses prefer students to have studied Physics because it helps to develop a logical train of thought. Certainly it is a preference subject for medical sciences like medicine and veterinary science, and essential for engineering courses, in particular, civil, electrical, aeronautical and mechanical engineering.
Students must have achieved a minimum of five 9-5 grades or the equivalent at GCSE, including a Grade 5 in GCSE English Literature or English Language, and a Grade 7 in Mathematics. The minimum entry requirement is a Grade 7 in either GCSE Physics (Separate Science), or a Grade 77 in GCSE Combined Science. If you studied BTEC Science, you are required to have achieved a Distinction* in the BTEC Level 2 First Award in Principles of Applied Science and a Distinction* in the BTEC Level 2 First Award in Application of Science. Alternatively, you will need to have achieved a Distinction* in the BTEC Level Diploma in Applied Science. Those joining the course with a BTEC qualification will be required to successfully complete a bridging course during the Summer term. This course will conclude with a summative assessment.
(Three written examinations) - Modelling and Exploring physics - Unified physics - Practical endorsement in physics – non examination assessment
