WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? This course is suitable for those considering a career in banking, finance or accounting. It is good grounding for any business or finance related degree or later professional qualifications. Knowledge of business and finance is an advantage when undertaking this course and it is recommended that it be studied alongside Business (but not compulsory). Students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to construct and edit various accounting documents, such as Income Statements, Statement of Financial Position, Cashbooks and Budgets. Even the best business ideas require sound financial management. It is important to note that at the Trust, only A Level Accounting is available, therefore a student who chooses this subject must complete the full qualification by the end of Year 13. The AS qualification is not available. COURSE CONTENT: It is important to note that Accounting is only available as an A Level, and is therefore a 2-year course. This linear specification emphasizes the analysis and evaluation of both financial accounting and the recording of past events, and management accounting as a means of planning and decision making. Students will develop an understanding of the principles of ethical behavior which inform the actions of all those working within an accounting environment. Evaluation and discussion of financial news, including announcements concerning the performance of leading UK businesses, financial markets, and investigation of business’ published accounts. - Financial Accounting - Management Accounting - Cost Accounting - Financial Regulations and Ethics WHERE NEXT - POSSIBLE CAREER PROGRESSION? There are a range of pathways into the accountancy profession, work based, vocational or graduate entry. A popular route is to study accountancy or a finance related degree, many of which include work experience at various accountancy firms, and then study for professional accountancy examinations.
Students must have achieved a minimum of five GCSEs grades 9-5 or the equivalent at GCSE, including a minimum of a grade 5 in GCSE English and a grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
