Course summary
You will study both broad historical trends and gradual change of ideas and societies, as well as an in-depth analysis of the key turning points and the role of individuals. You will develop your essay writing skills and work on building well-constructed arguments. You will assess and evaluate historian’s views and written historical sources. Higher grades require reading around the subject and good evaluation skills. Through the units of the course, you will gain an understanding of how the politics, economy and society of Modern Britain was shaped, and how the globe’s politics and institutions are still heavily overshadowed by the impact of the Cold War. You will also learn about Britain’s legacy of Empire and look at historical debate.
