Art and Design

Course summary

The qualification consists of eight units, of which six are mandatory. The six mandatory units require you to work with 2D and/ or 3D materials, techniques and processes, to visually record using the visual language to communicate through Art & Design and to develop ideas informed by contextual influences you researched. The optional units will provide you with knowledge and experience of professional practices and will introduce you to various specialisms of Art & Design including printmaking, digital manipulation, graphics, photography, fine art and sculpture. While studying this course you will develop visual recording and communication skills as well as critical and contextual understanding of Art & Design. You will learn about materials, techniques and processes through practical vocational projects enabling you to develop expertise in a range of specialisms such as printmaking, digital manipulation, graphics, photography, fine art and sculpture. You will also develop employment skills such as planning projects, presenting draft designs and completing final pieces within deadlines. This course will also develop your presentation skills and you will learn how to put together an Art & Design portfolio.
