Chemistry is taught as a content-led approach. A flexible approach where the specification is divided into topics, each covering different key concepts of chemistry. Learners will have opportunities to study chemistry in a range of different contexts, conveying the excitement of contemporary chemistry. Teaching of practical skills is integrated with the theoretical topics with an emphasis on an investigational and problem-solving approach to practical work. Assessment is both through 3 written papers and the Practical Endorsement. Year 1 includes Foundation Chemistry, Periodic Table & Energy and Core Organic Chemistry. Year 2 includes Physical Chemistry & Transition Elements and Organic Chemistry & Synthesis.
Entry to Sixth Form is determined by GCSE average point score. This is calculated by taking the total number of GCSE subjects taken, adding them together and then dividing by the total number of subjects. Specific subject entry requirements: GCSE Maths – Grade 6 GCSE Combined Science – Grade 7, 7 GCSE Separate Science – Grade 6
