Course summary

Why Study Economics? Economics is a scientific study of how people and institutions go about producing and consuming goods and services, and how they face the challenge of making choices in a world of scarce resources. Our teaching team provides an opportunity for the student to acquire general knowledge of the methods by which goods and services are allocated and incomes are generated, and why prices, employment, money and financial markets behave as they do. The overriding objective of the department is that teachers want to use their expertise and experience to deliver high quality, motivating lessons to bring this vibrant subject alive, making teaching and learning Economics both exciting and rewarding for all. What Topics Will I Study? A-Level (linear) - A-level Unit 1: Markets & Market Failure - A-level Unit 2: The National and International Economy - A-level Unit 3: Economic Principles & Issues An Example of the Type of Work Involved: You will complete data response exercises, essays and multiple choice questions. You will also take part in debates, discussion and presentations. What Careers or Higher Education Follow from this Subject? Economics is a well-regarded academic subject which is useful for any career. If you intend to study Economics at university then it is often advisable to study Mathematics to AS or A Level. Students who go on to complete a degree in Economics major may find employment opportunities in the public sector and public enterprises, the private sector and regional and international organization.
