Course summary
This course is a two year program and is equivalent to 3 x A Levels. After successful the completion of the first year of this course, you can choose to study the following pathways. There are 4 core units: •Principles and Applications of Applied Science I •Science Investigation Skills •Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques •Laboratory Techniques and their Application A choice of 2 optional units from below: •Physiology of Human Body Systems •Microbiology and Microbiological Techniques •Electrical Circuits and their Applications •Genetics and Genetic Engineering •Human Regulation and Reproduction •Biological Molecules and Biochemical Processes In the first year there is an emphasis on building skills, both scientific and professional. You will learn practical skills and how to evaluate and present quality written work whilst adhering to deadlines which prepares you well for university. The first year units will enable students to follow the Applied Science pathway as a discrete qualification. Students learn to analyze and critique scientific literature and build on reporting and analysis skills specific to their chosen career pathway.
