An A Level in Textile Design leads naturally to careers in Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Fashion, Advertising and Product Design. Textiles Design is particularly advantageous for those wishing to progress onto a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. Textiles involves the creation and transformation of materials to explore and produce personal, practical and contextual investigations within the specialism. It brings together aspects of fashion, furnishing, illustration and fine art and is the perfect course for students with creative flair and an enthusiasm for drawing. You will enjoy the creative challenge of exploring and working with a wide range of natural and manufactured materials including wool, plastics, cloth and paper, developing outcomes within printed, dyed and constructed textiles. Drawing is an essential skill for studying this subject and is integral to Textile Design practice. You will explore a wide range of techniques, for example hand embroidery, machine skills, fabric manipulation and shibori.
