If you would like to work with small children, this course can give you an insight into the range of opportunities open to you and help you to develop some useful skills. Equivalent to 1 A level, you can study it alongside other level 3 qualifications in preparation for entry to jobs, apprenticeships and higher education courses in early years such as working in nursery and primary schools, children's nursing and social work. You don't need to have studied a childcare qualification previously. You'll study child development including the important theories and models that explain how and why children develop and how this relates to the Early Years Foundation Stage. You'll get an understanding of how children learn to communicate, read and understand numbers and the ways that early year's educators can devise activities that encourage children's development and understanding at each stage. You'll explore the importance of play, learning how to provide children with purposeful and educational play activities. You will complete one further optional unit from either: keeping children safe, working with parents, children's physical development or the early years foundation stage.
4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, in subjects that are relevant to the course
Through a combination of coursework assignments and an examination.
