What will I learn on this course? Sociology A Level explores the factors and influences that shape both groups and individuals within society. It helps explain social change, encourages political and social engagement with contemporary social issues. At A level students study Families and Households, Education, Research Methods, Media, Crime and Deviance and Theory with Methods.
What skills do I need to have to do this course? What are the entry requirements? Skills needed to be successful on this course first stems from an interest in exploring a wide range of complex sociological theory. Therefore, students require an enquiring mind about society and the political world in general and be keen to explore the subject through wider reading and independent research. Students should also be able to think analytically about sociological ideas and studies with confidence and communicate critical analysis effectively through discussions and essay-writing. Must have a grade 7+ average in GCSEs. Must have a grade 7 in relevant GCSE subject.
This course is assessed with three equally weighted written examination papers, each of two hours at the end of the two years.
