Course summary

The BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care is intended as an applied general qualification. It is for post 16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the health and social care sector.

Entry requirements

4 A* - C grades at GCSE with a minimum of a numerical grade 4 in English Language although a grade 5 is recommended.

How you'll be assessed

Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications in the sector. 72% of the qualification is assessed internally through a variety of methods such as reports, presentations and practical assignments. 42% is externally assessed. Learners taking this qualification will study 13 units in total, 8 of which are mandatory units (listed below). Students will complete 4 examinations during this course. The mandatory units are: Human Lifespan Development Working in Health and Social Care Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs Work experience in Health and Social Care Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care Promoting Public Health The qualification is equivalent in size to 3 A levels.
