The Extended Project is designed to teach skills in independent learning, thinking, research, discussion and debate. It is fun, challenging and exciting and it is excellent as a preparation for university and working life. It promotes the development of capacities for independent learning, research and critical thinking. Students are able to choose from two different project types: Dissertation or Artefact. Within these a free choice of title or project brief gives students an exciting and enjoyable opportunity to work on and learn about topics which are related to their personal interests and plans for the future. This is especially valuable for students who wish to read a subject at university which is not a taught A Level, allowing valuable research into their chosen subject area. A high graded Extended Project Qualification can lead to a reduced offer from many Russell Group Universities including Birmingham, Liverpool, Sheffield and Southampton.
