Building on prior learning during GCSE PE, students enhance their knowledge and increase their understanding of the factors that affect performance and participation in physical activities. As a Science-based course, PE forms the foundation for many medical fields and the study of Sports Sciences at University. Career pathways include Trainer, Coach, Teacher, Sports Doctor, Team Manager, Physiotherapist and Journalist among many others.
At least eight GCSEs grades 9-4 Grade 6 in GCSE PE AND a GCSE Grade 5 in Biology OR Grade 5 in Combined Science. Students need to be actively engaged in sporting performance, or coaching, outside of school. All students must also have achieved a minimum of a GCSE Grade 5 in English Language OR English Literature.
Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport Assessed: Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Skill Acquisition, Sport and Society. Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport Assessed: Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics, Sport Psychology, Sport and Society and Technology in Sport. Practical: Assessed as a performer or coach in a competitive, full sided version of one activity Coursework: written or verbal analysis of their competitive performance
