This is a new BTEC course that gives more variety for pupils to learn about the sports industry. It is made up of examination modules, externally assessed tasks and internally assessed tasks. It also contains scientific elements and offers opportunities for pupils to develop a career in sport. Year 12 Core Units: Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology To understand what happens during sport and exercise. This unit explains how the body is made up of a number of different systems, how these systems interact and work together and why they are important to sports performance. Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-Being To gain the ability to screen clients and design fitness training programmes which is essential for anyone working in the health and fitness industry. This also identifies ways of improving an individual or team performance in sport. Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry In this unit pupils explore the various job possibilities within the sports industry and learn about different career pathways. Year 13 Core Units:: Unit 1: Sports Leadership Pupils will need to know the importance of a leader within the sports industry; understand the qualities of a leader that they would need to develop,such as being able to motivate, work as a team and develop personal relationships. Unit 2: Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry How business operates in the sport and active leisure industry and how it responds to trends and other influences to meet the needs of clients and benefit the business. Unit 23: Skill Acquisition in Sport Learners will study the factors that contribute to a skilled performance in sport and examine how sports performers learn and develop their skills.
5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 3 including PE (if taken), and a 3 in English and Mathematics
There are 9 units : 6 are mandatory, while 3 optional units are chosen by the teachers to best suit the needs of each pupil. The course is a total of 720 Guided Learning Hours (895 total qualification time) which equates to two A-Levels. The mandatory content is 75% and 45% of units are externally assessed.
