Mathematics includes the study of Algebra, Calculus, Geometry and Trigonometry. Further Mathematics includes material that would be typically covered in an undergraduate course and will also include Further Mechanics (circular motion, work, energy, power, projectiles) and Decision Mathematics (route finding, optimisation, sorting and project management).
At least eight GCSEs grades 9-4 Grade 8 in GCSE Mathematics and studying A Level Mathematics. All students must also have achieved a GCSE Grade 5 in English Language OR English Literature.
Further Mathematics is a linear A Level meaning that all the exams will take place at the end of Year 13 and will test all the material that has been covered over 2 years. There is an emphasis on problem solving, modelling and reasoning in the new A Levels. Mathematics is the only subject to offer two A Levels in the same field.
