Students will undertake 6 units for the Foundation Diploma, 4 of these units are mandatory and 2 are optional units. All six units will need to be completed to achieve your qualification. You will have to undertake external exams for 2 of the units. The 4 mandatory units you will study are as follows: Unit 1 – Information Technology Systems – this is an external written exam that will take place in January and if need be retake is in June. Unit 2 – Creating Systems to Manage Information (Database) – this is again external exam with controlled practical assessment in College Unit 3 – Using Social Media in Business and Unit 4 – Programming - this is an internally assessed assignment based unit Optional Units: Unit 5 – Data Modelling and Unit 6 – Website Development – these two units are internally assessed assignment based units – you will gain hands on experience using Adobe Dreamweaver CS10. You will create a website based on a storyboard for a chosen theme within the ICT Department. This course is designed for ICT students who are serious about a future within the Computing and IT industry and who want to acquire the professional skills needed to succeed in the world of Technology. If you like working with computers, enjoy solving problems using logical, analytical thinking and enjoy hands-on practical work then this course is for you. You will learn how to create websites, animations, games, spreadsheets and databases. You will also develop practical skills in computer hardware and networking.
5 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) including English and Maths or a relevant Level 2 Diploma qualification at Distinction grade. We will need to see a progress report which states 90% and above attendance and a recommendation from your tutor, school or college. Students who have 5 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) including English and Maths or a Level 2 Diploma with Merit grade along with GCSE or relevant Level 2 functional skills Maths or English should apply and will be interviewed.
