Core Maths is a new set of Level 3 qualifications for students who have already achieved a grade 5 or higher in GCSE Maths and English and who want to continue studying maths to support their vocational subject or A Levels. WHAT UNITS/TOPICS WILL BE STUDIED? The courses focus on using and applying mathematics to solve everyday problems you will meet in other subjects, in the workplace and at university. It is a course that makes extensive use of spreadsheets and will teach you EXCEL skills to use in your future career, as well as improving and advancing your maths skills. Core Maths is taught over one year, is worth the same UCAS points as an AS Level, and is assessed by two end of course exams. It is also supported by an extensive online course. Settings you will meet include: • Analysis of data • Foreign exchange • Working out commission • Financial mathematics • Using algebra and graphs to solve real world problems • Price comparison • Randomised controlled trials • Statistical modelling
