What will I learn on this course? There are 3 distinct areas of Maths that will be covered. Core, Statistics and Mechanics. You will learn a range of mathematical skills and techniques to make logical and reasoned decisions and communicate the rationale for these decisions clearly. You will also be able to recognise incorrect reasoning. You will be able to apply Mathematics in other fields of study in a variety of contexts and to appreciate how different areas of Maths are connected. You will also see the relevance of Maths to the world of work and to situations in society in general. You will learn to use technology such as graphics calculators and computers effectively and recognise when their use is appropriate. Overall, you will learn to take increasing responsibility for your own learning and the evaluation of your own mathematical development.
A Level Further Maths will require a GCSE grade 9. An additional qualification in either Statistics or Further Maths will be taken into consideration. To study A Level Further Maths, you must also study A Level Maths. Must have a grade 7+ average in GCSEs. Must have a grade 7 in relevant GCSE subject.
The course is assessed by 2 written exams at the end of the year 12 for the AS Level qualification and 3 written exams at the end of year 13 for the full A Level qualification.
