This course gives you the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social care sector. The course will prepare you to understand how to provide the best possible service and care to people of all ages and with widely differing needs. The following units are covered in the diploma qualification: • Unit 1: Building Positive Relationships in Health and Social Care Introduces you to the many different relationships you will encounter within the Health and Social Care sector. • Unit 2 – Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care (1.5 hr exam) Understand the implications of diversity on practice and the effects of discriminatory practice on individuals who require care. • Unit 3 – Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care (1.5hr exam) Acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to equip you in maintaining a safe working environment. • Unit 4 – Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care (2 hr exam) Learn about the basic structure and functions of the body systems involved in everyday activities and maintenance of health. • Unit 5- Infection Control Understand the importance of infection control and be introduced to methods that help to prevent the spread of infection. • Unit 6- Personalisation and a Person-Centred Approach to Care (1.5hr exam) Develop an understanding of the values that underpin a person-centered approach to care • Unit 7- Safeguarding (1.5 hr exam) Learn how to support & protect people & understand who is vulnerable by being able to recognise signs of abuse, exploitation and harm. • Unit 8- Creativity and activity for children and young people learn how to encourage children and young people to be creative and explore the role of the practitioner in developing this skill. • Unit 9- Supporting people with learning disabilities Understand the term “learning disability” and learn about a range of different types and possible causes. • Unit 13: Sexual Health, Reproduction and Early Development Stages Explore development from conception to a year of age. Develop an understanding of importance of sexual health and contraception. • Unit 14 – The impact of long time Physiological conditions Support individuals with long-term physiological conditions in planning their care & support. Learn the types, causes & effects of these conditions on individuals. • Unit 10- Nutrition for health Consider nutritional health benefits and learn how to support other people to follow dietary advice to impact their health and wellbeing.
A minimum of five grade 4s at GCSE or equivalent, with at least a merit or grade 4 in a relevant qualification.
The Cambridge Technical Diploma in Health and Social Care (equivalent to 2 A levels) is made up of 12 units. Five of the units are externally assessed exams and the other seven units are internally assessed by staff and moderated by OCR.
