Course summary

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? This course is for students who are academically minded and have an interest in current affairs and politics. Students will have the opportunity to research current events and to study economic predictions and what effect these will have on individual markets and the economy as a whole. Students’ work will focus on developing their knowledge and skills to explain and evaluate the important factors involved within an economy. COURSE CONTENT The course will explore and develop the following topics of interest: A LEVEL ECONOMICS Individuals, firms, markets and market failure Paper 1: Markets and market failure Paper 2: Paper 2: National and international economy Paper 3: Economic principles and issues WHERE NEXT - POSSIBLE CAREER PROGRESSION? The Economics course will compliment students studying Government and Politics and other Social Sciences. The course may also lead to a degree in Economics and Mathematics. It will demonstrate sought after analytical and theoretical skills, which are required in the competitive employment market. Economists may enter a variety of careers such as journalism, accounting or careers within the local and national government. Students who have studied Economics will have a good understanding of the environment in which a business is run and this knowledge is valued by all employers. The skills and knowledge that students will acquire on this course will make them a very attractive proposition for future employers.
