Students are introduced to various Art/Photo techniques to inform responses to researched artists. Through structured teacher led workshops, students gain confidence in using informed contemporary / traditional disciplines including painting, print making and photography (digital and manual darkroom). Year 12 Introduction to techniques and experimentation with media. Students will understand how to use key terminology to analyse the works of artists. Through teacher led workshops, students gain confidence, helping them develop ideas and produce a final outcome. Year 13 Working on a personal theme, students will develop personal ideas, being informed by artists. Through this investigation of media and materials, students will arrive at a confident outcome. Please note within the personal investigation, students need to complete a confident personal written investigation (3000 word essay) supporting their practical ideas/ development. This personal practical/ written investigation equates to 60% of the A-level.
Candidates must have both Maths and English Language or English Literature GCSE at Grade 5 or above, and also fulfil the entry criteria for their chosen subject courses: GCSE Art & Design 6 or above, or BTEC Level 2 Art & Design Merit or above, and GCSE English Language or GCSE English Literature Grade 4 or above. A portfolio based on given theme must be completed to a satisfactory standard before enrolment onto the course.
Students make progress through the use of formative and summative assessment and targeted feedback. Students build up a portfolio of evidence working towards all assessment objectives for the coursework/ externally set examination based unit.
