Course summary

BTEC QCF Level 3 qualifications are designed to provide highly specialist work-related content. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to prepare for employment or provide career development opportunities for those already in work. The course includes the following units split between the two years. - Construction Principles - Construction Design - Construction Technology - Health & Safety in Construction - Low Temperature Hot Water Systems - Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning - Provision of Primary Services - Building Services Science - Electrical Principles - Electrical Installation You will have approximately 400 hours of direct tuition over the two years. As a guide you will need to spend another 600 hours in independent study and completing assignments/projects to achieve the level of attainment necessary for the award of the qualification.

Entry requirements

The course is more likely to benefit applicants already working in the industry, however each candidate will be assessed on previous experience and qualifications including: GCSE grades 4 (C) or above in at least five subjects but must include Mathematics and English Language Work related experience and other sector related qualifications will be considered for mature applicants Expected prior knowledge/experience: Ideally you will be working in building services or a related sector. English level: GCSE English Language (Grade 4 (C) or above). Mathematics level: GCSE Mathematics (Grade 4 (C) or above).

How you'll be assessed

Most assessment evidence is submitted by written coursework and reports. However, the first two units listed are assessed by external examination.
