Course summary

Career Opportunities A Level Psychology is accepted by Universities as an excellent foundation for a wide range of degree courses including Medicine and nursing, Psychology and Criminology. It is also an asset in Health and Welfare, Law, Teaching, Marketing, Human Resources, General Management, the Police and Media. It is important to note that many jobs in the field of Psychology require study to degree level and specialising in a particular field. These jobs can be very rewarding and include: -Clinical Psychology -Counselling -Educational Psychology -Forensic Psychology -Occupational -Psychology and Sports -Exercise Psychology.

Entry requirements

Students require a minimum of 7 GCSEs at grade 5 or above or equivalent, including a grade 6 in English (Literature or Language), at least a grade 5 in Mathematics and at least a 6 in at least one science and a related subject. A minimum of seven grade 5s in full course GCSE subjects. Must obtain at least a grade 6 at GCSE in a relevant subject for the subjects being considered for A Level. Must have achieved grade 5 in English and Mathematics GCSE. A Level Mathematics requires a grade 7 at GCSE.

How you'll be assessed

Method of Assessment: 100% exam at the end of year 13 Course Overview: Students will sit 3 exams and each of the 3 units is assessed by a 2 hour exam. Exams include mixture of short and long answer questions. Units Studied: • Paper 1: Introductory Topics in Psychology: Social influence, Memory, Attachment and Psychopathology. • Paper 2: Psychology in context: Approaches in Psychology, Biopsychology and Research methods. • Paper 3: Issues and Options in Psychology: Issues and Debates in Psychology, Gender, Schizophrenia and Aggression.
