Course summary
Students will apply their practical skills and knowledge in preparation for further study or the workplace. Designed in collaboration with experts spanning the breadth of the sector, the Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity focuses on the skills, knowledge and understanding that today’s universities and employers demand. Students will take eleven units made up of nine mandatory and two optional units. The nine mandatory units are: Unit 1 - Body systems and the effects of physical activity Unit 2 - Sports coaching and activity leadership Unit 3 - Sports organisation and development Unit 4 - Working safely in sport Unit 5 - Performance analysis in sport Unit 8 - Organisation of sports events Unit 11 - Physical activity for specific groups Unit 13 - Health and fitness testing Unit 17 - Sports Injuries Unit 18 - Practical Sport Unit 19 - Sports Psychology This qualification is not just about being able to play sport, it will provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into Higher Education on a sport-related programme such as Sport and Physical Education, Sport Science, Sport Coaching and Development or Sport and Leisure Management. Students may also want to progress into sport-related apprenticeship in one of these areas: • Sports coach/consultant • Sports policy at local level • Diet and fitness instructor • Personal trainer • Sports science • PE teacher • Physiotherapist
