Health and Social Care is a rewarding profession which provides the opportunity to care for others and make a positive difference to people’s lives. Demand for health and social care has risen significantly and is liable to continue to rise due to the ageing population, so it is indisputable that it plays a key role in UK society. The demand for people to fill these vital careers will therefore continue. The Health and Social Care Department offers the National Extended Certificate qualification equivalent to one A level. The content of the course includes how human growth and development occurs across all life stages, as well as the theoretical basis of child development and debates within Health and Social Care, which intertwines with other psychological and sociological theories. Learners will look at various factors such as economic and social factors and how they impact the care of individuals. Core units for this course include: Unit 1: Human Lifespan and Development Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care needs and Support Unit 14: Physiological Disorders and their Care The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care is intended as an Applied General qualification covering 360 GLH and equivalent in size to one A Level. It is designed for learners who are interested in gaining an introduction into the health and social care sector, with a view to progressing to a range of higher education courses, not necessarily in Health and Social Care. Learners will gain knowledge in how we develop as human’s across our life span, how events in our life can impact our health and wellbeing, different roles within the industry of health and social care and how the needs of individuals are met. The objective of this qualification is to give learners the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills and enable them to progress to a variety of degrees and potential career pathways within the health and social care industry.
Three Grades 9-4 at GCSE including Grade 4-4 Combined Science Trilogy and Grade 4 in English
Assessment Allows learners to build on their skills needed for Higher Education and includes written examinations, controlled assessments (in which a pre-release material is studied in advance) as well as internal assignments. Year 12 External and Internal assessments Unit 1: (Externally assessed) Unit 5: (Internally assessed) Year 13 Unit 2: (Externally assessed) Unit14: (Internally assessed)
