French
Course summary
The French A-level is an exciting and varied course, as well as being an ideal next step on the road to becoming a fluent French speaker and expert on all things francophone. We will be using a variety of resources, texts, audio and short films to learn about French and francophone history, politics and culture. The six sub-themes to be covered in Y12 are a logical continuation of themes covered in GCSE, but with greater emphasis on an understanding of the wider cultural context. They are: • Family, Cyber-society, Voluntary work, Culture & tourism, Francophone music and Cinema. In Y13, the six themes aim to deepen understanding of political and social issues in France and the francophone world. They are: • Immigration, Diversity, Young people in politics, Poverty, Crime and issues related to work and labour relations We will also study in detail a French film and a French novel. (Literature and film are not only an excellent way of improving comprehension of a foreign language; they are also a fantastic way of sparking discussion and debate.)
