Course summary
Sociology is a discipline that makes sense of human behaviour and our own individual experiences, in terms of the networks of social forces & relationships that structure our identity. Debate, controversy and insight are guaranteed. The study of Sociology will allow you to develop your intellectual skills; it may even change your mind! You will study topics like the role of values in the formation of culture, how patterns of behaviour regulate social life and the meaning of gender identities and their impact on social behaviour. Sociology is considered as an appropriate subject for access to many different degree courses, particularly in the Social Science and Humanities. The study of Sociology could lead on to careers in Public Relations, Teaching, Local and Central Government, Management and Business, Journalism, Social Work, Probation Service, Youth and Community Work.
