Course summary
This course offers a broad introduction to the principles of care in health and social care services. Students will consider the social, financial and psychological impacts of people with various conditions ranging from heart disease to arthritis and mental health conditions. Students will also learn about the legislation and guidance supporting health and social care, to ensure that the people they are working with are able to access all the care and support they are entitled to, as well as protect themselves and others from harm or abuse at work. CAREER PATHWAYS: The subject is of particular relevance to a wide range of health, social care or early year’s degrees such as Teaching, Nursing and Social Work. A range of employment opportunities are opened up in the social services, care of children and the elderly. Careers in this area also include Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Paramedic, Community Health Worker and Health Promotion.
