This A Level course provides an introduction to key elements of both psychological theory and the research which underpins this theory. It is primarily a scientific course giving students the chance to develop core skills of analysis,interpretation and evaluation while looking at both human behaviour and biology. They will also begin to see how psychology has contributed to an understanding of individuals’ actions, societal phenomena and group dynamics. Students will also focus on the skills and knowledge appropriate to the implementation of psychological research and will need to be good at handling and analysing data.
a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4. Students applying to the 6 th Form without GCSEs but with an equivalent qualification must provide confirmation from their most recent educational establishment of courses studied, levels of attainment and equivalent grades with reference to GCSE grades 9 to 1. Additional Requirements: Grade 5 in Psychology GCSE. Or grade 5 English, Mathematics and grade 6 in Biology GCSEs
Unit 1: Introductory Topics in Psychology – students to complete an externally assessed examination which lasts 2 hours.The paper is made up of 3 sections comprising of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions. This paper makes up 33.3% of the A Level. Unit 2: Psychology in Context – students to complete an externally assessed examination which last 2 hours.
