This A Level course focuses on the understanding and application of Chemistry concepts. The course builds on prior knowledge from GCSE Science, Additional Science and Triple Science Chemistry. There is a high level of mathematical content in the course and students are required to complete a challenging and wide-ranging set of practical activities. A Level Chemistry gives students an excellent grounding for higher education by developing practical skills applicable to a variety of industrial contexts, as well as problem solving and critical thinking skills. The course is divided in to Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry. Physical Chemistry covers topics including atomic structure, bonding, energetics, rates of reaction and electrochemistry. Organic Chemistry covers key classes of organic compounds and their reactions, including alkanes, alkenes, halogenoalkanes and aromatic compounds. Inorganic Chemistry includes the study of the alkaline earth metals, the halogens and the transition metals.
