What will I learn on this course? There are 3 distinct areas of Maths that will be covered. Core, Statistics and Mechanics. You will learn a range of mathematical skills and techniques to make logical and reasoned decisions and communicate the rationale for these decisions clearly. You will also be able to recognise incorrect reasoning. You will be able to apply Mathematics in other fields of study in a variety of contexts and to appreciate how different areas of Maths are connected. You will also see the relevance of Maths to the world of work and to situations in society in general. You will learn to use technology such as graphics calculators and computers effectively and recognise when their use is appropriate. Overall, you will learn to take increasing responsibility for your own learning and the evaluation of your own mathematical development. What careers and university courses could this course lead me to? Students who study Maths and Further Maths regularly go on to university and competitive apprenticeship. Maths A Level is a highly sought after and valued qualification for universities. It is essential for students wanting to study Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering and Economics at university and can also lead to careers in the following areas: Actuarial Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Medicine, Accounting, Finance, Business Studies and many more. A level Maths is considered a facilitating qualification meaning it is commonly asked for in universities’ entry requirements, regardless of the course you are applying for.

To study A Level Maths you will need to achieve a GCSE grade 7 or above in Maths. Maths is challenging, all the time. Must have a grade 7+ average in GCSEs. Must have a grade 7 in relevant GCSE subject.

Assessment
The course is assessed by 2 written exams at the end of the year 12 for the AS Level qualification and 3 written exams at the end of year 13 for the full A Level qualification.
