What will I learn on this course? We study two examined units worth 80% of the course. The first, Tsarist and Communist Russia 1855-1964, allows students to study in breadth issues of change, continuity, cause and consequence in this period of huge revolutionary upheaval and world-defining change. Students will then study the Making of Modern Britain 1951- 2007, where you will be able to explore how Britain was shaped by key social, economic and international developments to become the modern multicultural country it is today. In Unit Three you will complete a coursework essay in an area of historical debate, which starts before 1807. You can choose the topic – follow what you’re passionate in! Examples might include: Why did a witch-craze grip Europe in the sixteenth century? To what extent did the Glorious Revolution settle disputes between Crown and Parliament? What was the primary cause of the American Revolution?
You should have a love of History and want to find out more about the past. You should enjoy reading and be able to read at a high level. You should have a critical mind and be able to evaluate a range of historical sources and interpretations. You should be able to write essays with confidence and enjoy expressing yourself verbally and in writing. You must gain a 7 in English Language or Literature and a 7 at History GCSE. Must have a grade 7+ average in GCSEs. Must have a grade 7 in relevant GCSE subject.
