You will understand more about how British society has developed and the forces that shape our behaviour and values. You will also learn to develop your own informed opinions, understand other people’s points of view and to communicate your own position clearly. In order to be able to take Sociology A Level at Coombe you need to have achieved seven 9-5 grades at GCSE. You should be an independent learner with a curious mind.
Studying Sociology at A Level will involve studying four units. All units have examinations. Assessment 100% exams. Paper 1 Education with Theory and Methods. Paper 2 Families and Beliefs. Paper 3 Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods. At A-level there are three exams, each accounting for one third of your A-level. The three exams last 2 hours and are worth 80 marks each. The exams consist of a mixture of short answers and extended writing questions.
