We follow the syllabus which will give you the opportunity to study plays from the point of view of a director, designer, performer and critic. A Level Drama and Theatres Studies aims to extend the knowledge, skills and understanding you will have acquired in Year 12, by enabling you to apply what you have learned to your own creative work. In the Devised Production, students alternate between being playwright, performer, designer, and director, and apply their knowledge of different theatre forms to the creation of their own work. You will also have the opportunity to explore, and present, your interpretation of a set play, from the perspective of director and designer in a written exam.
All students are required to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs. *This also includes achieving a grade 4 and 5 in GCSE English Language and English Literature and a grade 3 or above in GCSE Maths. Subject specific requirements: At least a grade 6 in GCSE Drama and/or English Language
Component 1: 20% You will create a devised play, in response to a key extract from one performance text and the work of a practitioner. You will perform, analyse and evaluate your work showing your knowledge and understanding of the rehearsal and performance process within a coursework portfolio. Component 2: 40% You will take part in a group performance, performing a key extract from a play and create a devised performance in response to a stimulus.Your performance is examined by a visiting examiner. Component 3: 40% This is a 2.5 hour written exam for which you will practically study two plays as a director, designer and actor. You will also use your experience as a member of the audience at a live performance as the basis for a written evaluation.
