The aim of this course is to develop candidates’ interest in biology, possibly leading to further study in the subject and related careers. Where Does It Lead? Gaining a qualification in Biology at this level can lead into Higher Education in areas such as Biological Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacology, Dentistry, Veterinary, Dietetics, Nursing, Forensics, Sports Science, Psychology, Teaching and more. Biology A level is made up of six modules: Module 1: Development of practical skills Module 2: Foundations in biology Module 3: Exchange and transport Module 4: Biodiversity, evolution and disease Module 5: Communications, homeostasis and energy Module 6: Genetics, evolution and ecosystems
Grade 6/6 or above in combined GCSE science or 6+ in GCSE Biology AND Maths at grade 5 or above.
3 examinations at the end of the second year: Paper 1 assesses the content from Modules 1, 2, 3 and 5 Paper 2 assesses the content from Modules 1, 2, 4 and 6 Paper 3 assesses the content from Modules 1 to 6 (in more depth) Practical Endorsement (not part of the A Level grade).
