WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? English Literature is suitable for students who enjoy reading a variety of engaging and thought provoking texts in a range of forms and genres. Intellectual curiosity is of key importance as this will not only facilitate independent learning skills, but also engender critical, analytical and evaluative skills, which are paramount to their development. As such, students will be expected to conduct independent research outside of lessons to support their overall appreciation of texts. WHERE NEXT - POSSIBLE CAREER PROGRESSION? An A Level in English is incredibly attractive to universities and employers as it demonstrates that a student possesses both analytical and evaluative skills as well as competence in written and verbal communication. A degree in English will increase your eligibility for a career in publishing, advertising, journalism, media studies or marketing, as well as being beneficial in the diverse professions of business or law.
Students must have achieved a minimum of five GCSEs grades 9-5 or the equivalent including a grade 6 in GCSE English Language, a grade 6 in GCSE English Literature and a grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics.
