The GCSE and A Level curriculum pathway has been designed to integrate the transferrable skills and knowledge learnt across the Key Stage 3 core subjects and complement these with a strong foundation of business skills and knowledge. The Business GCSE course provides a stimulating and contemporary look at the world of business. This is a new specification and has been offered to the 2019-20 Year 9 cohort. Students will study the practical application of business concepts. The schemes of learning will provide opportunities to explore theories and concepts through the context of events in the business and economic world. The knowledge and skills gained from this subject will provide students with a firm foundation in business for further study. The GCSE provides a natural route into the Business A Level or the Economics A Level at Key Stage 5, both of which are currently running successfully in our sixth form. As a department, we work collaboratively with the Harris Federation sixth form to develop our schemes of learning, following much of their curriculum design and adapting it to the needs of our students. The content of the AQA A level course is designed to engage students through topics and issues that are relevant in today’s society, such as digital technology, business ethics and globalisation. Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions; all skills that are needed for further study and employment. We work with the Federation to monitor quality of delivery and to standardise assessment as we see this as a critical element to improve learning outcomes for our students and professional development for the business teachers.
must have a minimum of seven grade 5s in full GCSE
Academic courses will be assessed with internal assessment in line with the federation assessment cycle to monitor performance of students throughout their key stage four study, including mock examinations. This helps us to adapt schemes of learning and adjust lessons to clear up any misconceptions. The final measure will be the outcomes of the students.
