Course summary

What will I learn on this course? You will learn a varied and engaging curriculum that includes looking at equality, diversity and rights in society as well as relationships and specific knowledge on the human anatomy and physiology. You will apply this knowledge either through examinations or through a complete range of interesting and academic coursework tasks. In short, you will learn everything you need to know to become a successful and caring health professional What careers and university courses could this course lead me to? Many students go on to complete an Undergraduate degree in adult or child nursing. Other students continue their education in health and social care at university level through completing a degree in the subject or completing a degree in a more specific health career such as Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. For those students who do not wish to go to university, the course provides foundation knowledge required to complete an Apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are available in Child Care, Teaching assistant courses and nursing. Many students study this subject with other social science subjects such as sociology and psychology which complement each other and provide students with an opportunity to study psychology and sociology further at university if required.

What skills do I need to have to do this course? What are the entry requirements? • Dedication and hardworking students who have good organisation skills and can meet strict deadlines. • Students who have a keen interest in the health and social care sector. • Students who have good written skills and that enjoy extended writing tasks. • Students who wish to pursue a career in the health sector or study the subject at a higher level. • Students who are opinionated and can debate different topics in society. • Having studied Health and Social Care at GCSE would be an advantage but not essential. Minimum entrance requirements for these courses are merits in level 2 vocational courses plus five GCSE good passes (5+) and a strong commitment to the subject.
