During the Music course students study all three of the main musical disciplines of Performing, Composing and Appraising. At least eight GCSEs grades 9-4 Grade 6 in GCSE Music. Students need to be proficient on at least one instrument to Grade 5. All students must also have achieved a minimum of a GCSE Grade 5 in English Language OR English Literature AND GCSE Grade 4 in Mathematics.
A Level Units: Unit 1: Performing - Students must perform a minimum of one piece, performed and interpreted as a recital. Performance can be a solo, as part of an ensemble, improvisation,realisation using music technology or a combination of these. Total performance time across the recital must be a minimum of 8 minutes of music. Unit 2: Composing -Students must submit two compositions of a combined duration of at least 6 minutes: Composition 1 (free choice): can be chosen from six briefs relating to areas of study or free composition. Carrying 40 marks of the composing assessment. This composition must be at least 4 minutes in duration.
