Course summary

Who is the course for? The course will appeal to those students who: - Have a keen interest in health and social care services and how they operate. - Enjoy studying a subject which in the future may allow them to make a difference in people’s lives. - Want to find out more about health care situations through work experience and personal investigation. What can it lead to? Students that successfully complete their program of study could progress onto a related degree or Higher National Diploma. Previous Level 3 students have gone directly into employment within health and social care services, however, the majority go on to university. Examples of courses studied at university include Bio-medical Sciences, Diagnostic Radiography, Nursing, Psychology and Physiotherapy. What will I study? The BTEC Extended Certificate is broadly equivalent to one A level and the National Diploma is broadly equivalent to two A Levels. National Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care and National Diploma in Health & Social Care Unit 1 Human Lifespan Development Unit 2 Working in Health and Social Care Unit 5 Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs Unit 12 Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs National Diploma in Health & Social Care Unit 4 Enquires into Current Research in Health and Social Care Unit 7 Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care Unit 8 Promoting Public Health Unit 6 Work Experience in Health and Social Care How will I be taught? Through lectures, discussion and practical activities. Work experience within the health and social care sector is a compulsory part of the National Diploma Course.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades 9-4 (or grade C and above) including either Mathematics grade 4 and/or English Language grade 4. You need at least a grade 3 in GCSE Mathematics to study any Level 3 subject.

You will be assessed in 3 ways: 1. Assignments set and marked by Rooks Heath teachers 2. Tasks set and marked by Edexcel 3. Two external exams, set and marked by Edexcel
