A Level Mathematics is a challenging and interesting course which builds upon the concepts studied at GCSE and introduces new ideas. It incorporates Pure and Applied Mathematics, extending theoretical knowledge and applying these skills to practical situations. Students need to be able to think for the random variables and the normal distribution.You will study additional pure Mechanics and Statistics units that build on the context covered in Year 12. Mechanics uses concepts learnt in science. Topics would include Kinetics, dynamics and statics of a particle.
All students are required to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs. *This also includes achieving a grade 4 and 5 in GCSE English Language and English Literature and a grade 3 or above in GCSE Maths. Subject specific requirements: At least a Grade 7 in GCSE Mathematics (from the Higher Tier) with a 4, or above in English Language. In addition to this grade entry criteria, students will also be asked to take a manipulative algebra test to guarantee the appropriate skills required are present.
