History A Level includes the study of both British and World History. It covers a variety of historical skills and allows for an in-depth study of historical evidence and interpretation. The Tudors: England, 1485 – 1603 Democracy and Nazism: Germany, 1918 – 1945 Historical Investigation
All students are required to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs. *This also includes achieving a grade 4 and 5 in GCSE English Language and English Literature and a grade 3 or above in GCSE Maths. Subject specific requirements: Students will be required to have obtained a Grade 5 or above at English GCSE, and a Grade 6 or above in GCSE History.
Assessment Component 1: Tudors (40%) From Henry VII the ‘forgotten king’ overshadowed by his son with six wives, to Elizabeth I’s Golden Age of exploration, culture & discovery. Component 2: Germany from Democracy to Dictatorship (40%) From the abdication of the Kaiser (via press conference without his knowledge!) to democracy & back to dictatorship. Component 3: Coursework (20%)Your passion? Your choice! Unlike many other schools, at CHSFG we let you choose any historical topic you are passionate about & allow you to write your coursework on this (you are bound to do your best when you’re studying something you are passionate about).This could be anything from Revolutionary Russia, to how the USA became a superpower, Blitz spirit in Britain, Medieval mysteries to Civil Rights Movement/abolition of slavery etc.
