WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? In this extremely relevant, dynamic course you will learn all about starting a business and managing a large, multinational organisation. It is an exciting course which will give you an insight into the world of business and current affairs. You will study a broad range of topics including Marketing, Finance, Operations and Business Strategy, as well as learn about the business environment in which businesses have to operate. COURSE CONTENT: In the first year of the course, students study business in a variety of contexts (e.g. large/small, UK focused/global, service/ manufacturing) and consider: - The importance of the context of business in relation to decision making. - The interrelated nature of business activities and how they affect competitiveness. - The influences on functional decisions and plans including ethical and environmental issues. - The factors that might determine whether a decision is successful, e.g. the quality of data and the degree of uncertainty. - How technology is changing the way decisions are made and how businesses operate and compete. - Use of non-quantitative and quantitative data in decision making (including the interpretation of index numbers and calculations such as ratios and percentages). During the second year, students will undertake the study of strategic decision making, when they will consider: - The impact of technology on strategic decision making. - The influences of Corporate Social Responsibility, ethical and environmental issues on strategic decisions. - The difficulties in forecasting future trends. - The importance of assessing feasibility and risk when making strategic decisions. WHERE NEXT - POSSIBLE CAREER PROGRESSION? A Level Business students often choose to progress to higher education courses and apprenticeships in Business related disciplines. Careers range from Marketing, Finance, Human Resources in small enterprises to large multinational organizations.

Entry requirements

Students must have achieved a minimum of five GCSEs grades 9-5 or the equivalent, including a grade 5 in GCSE English and a grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics.
