What will I learn on this course? It will encourage you to develop your interest in, and enjoyment of, literary study through reading widely and critically. You will develop your ability to engage with literary critics and provide original and well-considered analysis of texts. Furthermore, you’ll undertake independent and sustained learning to deepen your appreciation and understanding of English literature, including its changing traditions. The two-year course will cover the following texts: • A Thousand Splendid Suns and Wuthering Heights • Shakespeare’s Othello • The American play, A Streetcar Named Desire • Contemporary Poetry • Romantic Poetry • Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (for a 20% coursework element).
Ideally, you will need to have obtained a Grade 7 in English Literature at GCSE in order to secure a place on the course. You need to have an interest in the subject of English, enjoy reading and unpicking the beauty of books Must have a grade 7+ average in GCSEs. Must have a grade 7 in relevant GCSE subject.
