It is designed to develop a broad range of skills, including project management, appraising and analysis, creativity, and imagination. We follow the Edexcel Specification.
six GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, (including GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics at Grade 4 or above). 5 in English Language 6 in Music; also grade 5 instrumental
Component 1 focuses on production tools and techniques to capture, edit, process and mix an audio recording. Students will produce one recording, chosen from a list of ten artists provided by the exam board, consisting of a minimum of five compulsory instruments and two additional instruments. In Component 2, students will have to create, edit, manipulate and structure sounds to produce a technology-based composition from a set brief by the exam board. Component 3 develops knowledge and understanding of recording and production techniques and principles, in the context of a series of unfamiliar commercial recordings. Students will also have to apply their knowledge of recording and production techniques for both corrective and creative purposes, principles of sound and audio technology, and the development of recording and production technology in a written exam. Component 4 requires students to display knowledge and understanding of editing, mixing and production techniques, and apply these techniques to unfamiliar audio samples in a practical production-based exam.
