The Hairdressing Level 2 Technical Diploma is suitable for adults over the age of 19. We offer a flexible pathway to gain employment opportunities quicker. This qualification is for you if you are looking to start a career in the hairdressing industry. At the end of this course, this qualification allows you to immediately enter employment as a hairdresser. You will study this course in one academic year. You will work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training - classes or lectures given by industry experts in college. We also benefit from our excellent partnerships with local and national hairdressing establishments. We urge our students to participate in national competitions and events to improve their skills and raise their confidence. You will need hairdressing equipment and the cost is approx. £200 (subject to change) which includes a uniform top. The equipment is ordered through the college at the time of enrolment, you may make an application to the Learner Support Fund for help towards the cost and this award is subject to your individual circumstances. If you are not eligible for the Learner Support Fund, you will be liable for the full cost of the equipment. Uniform in the salons is compulsory and this consists of the tunic top supplied in your equipment, you must also supply, plain black shoes with a closed in toe and heel (strictly no trainers) and plain black trousers (no leggings or jeans). We recognise that a number of adults face major challenges to learning, such as a low level of English or digital skills. We want to create programmes that break down these obstacles and allow more individuals to get the higher-level education and training they need to advance. We offer part-time programmes if your aged 19+, in which you will have more flexible models of delivery to support your training needs. In addition, we are including focused digital skills into the offer to ensure you can use social media and marketing effectively especially as many adults' access employment opportunities. You will have the opportunity to attend external events including the Skills Show, Salon International and Blackpool Winter Gardens. We also network with employers who demonstrate up-to-date and current industry methods and techniques to all our students, whilst sha This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the hairdressing industry. You will study the following mandatory content: • Cut women’s hair • Colour and lighten hair • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp • The art of dressing hair • Working in the hair industry • Follow health and safety in the salon • Client consultation for hair services In additional you would be expected to study an optional area – depending on campus, client demand or credit value. • Perm and neutralise hair • Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector • Promote products and services to clients in a salon • Scalp massage • Salon reception duties • Plaiting and twisting hair To achieve the Hairdressing Certificate, you must successfully complete the mandatory assessment components these are on-line assessments and on-going practical assessments.
