Assessed by an externally set report assignment. And a practical project assignment linked to other practical units of study I.E Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Unit 4, Unit 5, Unit 6, Unit 9. Or a written extended examination. Units 1, Unit 11. Students will be expected to research, plan, provide accurate up to date information and use this within lessons to either showcase learning or participate within the learning process. key components -theoretical understanding of the concepts of will be linked to completed units of study were ever possible. Therefore pupils will be able to use a practical unit and additional learning experience for the theoretical units. Classroom teaching follows wherever possible the methodology of metacognition as per TPET strategy, with 7 stages: Activating prior knowledge (often through ‘Do It Now’ activities) Explicit strategy instruction (Teacher Demo) Modelling of learned strategy (often using video tuition) Memorisation and application of strategy Independent practice Structured reflection (emphasis on written reflection and justification practice for merit criteria objectives) For the externally assessed units (1,11) Two portfolio pieces per half term - one exam conditions assessment, one normal prep based on ESQs Frequent low stakes testing, including use of bullet questioning, 3 and out plenaries, Kahoot and Google Forms. Group presentation focused on gaining a deeper understanding of topic theory. For the externally examined units (1,11) there is a high focus on literacy, particularly in terms of the ability to interpret and understand exam style questions (ESQ) and scenarios, and to write effective PEE responses. Every single lesson (or prep) to include completion of an ESQ. For the more practical units teaching is project based with One portfolio piece per term, working through example solutions to achieve a final completed project that supports an understanding of key concepts listed within the specification for the unit studied. Assessed by a 2 hour exam in January, with opportunity to resit if required in June.
